Sato Nellie would be a great addition to a loving family! She was rescued from a hoarding situation in Puerto Rico, where she lived with a number of other dogs in a crowded kennel style area, with minimal food and no vet care. Many of these dogs have been rescued and flown to Northern California where they found amazing homes through HFP.
Despite her past, Nellie loves everyone she meets and especially loves to be by your side. She is curious and would make a great companion for exploring new places. She has some hearing loss, likely due to multiple untreated ear infections. She is working hard on her manners and is learning fast.
She would love for you to continue her training and treats are a great incentive! She is as happy going for a walk as she is cuddling on the couch. Nellie’s experience with children is limited, but with a proper introduction and patience, they could be great friends. If you are looking for an adventure buddy, a cuddlebug, and an all around great dog, you’ve found her!
Nellie’s activity level is moderate, and she goes for a 1 ½-2 mile walk every morning and evening and will trot along your side. When alone without distraction, she walks wonderfully. She wants to meet every dog she sees, so we are working on her leash manners when passing other dogs. Squirrels and cats are her kryptonite and she is working on redirecting her focus on her handler when she encounters them on her walks.
She is playful with toys and is learning to play tug and fetch.
She is housetrained and wakes up around 6 am to go to outside, and then often goes back to sleep for another hour before breakfast. After breakfast it’s time for a walk around the neighborhood. She is happy to hang out with you, snooze, or run errands until dinnertime. She’s great in the car. After dinner she has another walk, and usually calls it a night by 10 pm.
