King

Meet King — King is in need of a new home due to his recent epileptic seizures; his family is moving out of country and do not feel it is safe for him to travel given his condition.

King was adopted through HFP as an 8 week old puppy. He is now in need of a foster, foster-to-adopt, or adopter.

More about King: King is Kennel trained, sleeping in his crate every night. He has a dog run in the yard and loves to just be out there an observe. He is afraid of the high winds.  King is very observant and often notices when something is new in our environment (I moved a globe when he was outside and when he came in he growled and barked at it!).  He is also very observant on walks, with me he just watches other people walking, with my fiancé he occasionally vocalizes. King is leash trained and will walk with a good heal.  We do use a pinch collar (he was head collar trained, but grew out of the one I have and I was advised to go to the pinch collar due to his size and power).  King is trained to go to his bed. He is completely house trained and is even trained to relieve on command “Do your business”.  When training him, I used a cue word  “Thank you” much like a clicker to indicate he did well and the I would reward him with a training treat.  He loves food and will work for it!  But is also learning to be ok with just a verbal praise and pet, we have been using random food rewards in hopes to limit his extra food intake.  Other commands he knows are “load” to get into the car, “kennel” to go into his run or crate, “That’s enough” to quiet and settle, “sit” “down” “wait” “easy” to slow when walking/crossing thresholds, “bed” to go and lay on his bed.  He is not good with “stay” but is picking it up slowly, “leave it” for leaving anything you don’t want him messing with, and “ok” as a basic release.  He will tell you if he feels like he deserves a treat but you didn’t deliver it!  He is opinionated, and talks back when he doesn’t agree.  He does not get along with cats.  He gets highly excited by and will chase.  He has a little dog sister (about 20lbs). He wants to play with her but still hasn’t learned how to be soft enough for her comfort – they do play a little if she is on the couch (he is not allowed on any furniture).  He has been to the dog park a lot, but he has an attitude with dogs that bother him a lot.  He will get too excited by young pups and try to show them he is boss.  He must have a conscientious handler when socializing with other dogs.  With a good long walk prior to the dog park, he generally does ok – so we try to never take him without a good walk prior.  I will opt to let him run and play with his friends only or alone if we were unable to get a walk in first.  He was an aggressive baby (needed intense work multiple times a day for a couple months to get him to respect us and not respond aggressively (he bit me and I needed to have the wound glued shut) , but I was able to train it out of him, and now he is a big sweetheart. He has never hurt any other dogs but truly has no idea of his size and power.  King loves to chase the ball, he has a large chuck-it ball that he likes to carry around but also to play fetch with, he has a regular chuck it too – we use the command “ball” to gain attention before we throw it.   He is not great about returning it, but he will bring the ball to you when he wants to play.  He also enjoys tug of war, but will play gently.
