MEET BAILEY! Bailey is an owner surrender due to no fault of her own.
More about Bailey: Bailey walks well on leash and has basic commands such as sit, down, let's go, etc. She will stay for a bit, but then loses interest so more work needed there. She also understands come when called, but responds much better to this command when there is a high value treat on the other end.
She is still a bit impulsive and will pull / lunge periodically if she sees a dog she is interested in getting to know, or if kids go by quickly on skateboards or bikes. She has shown no aggressive tendencies towards these distractions and it seems to be more of a playful interest.
She's a big girl and will play friendly, but in more of a roughhousing style with other large dogs if given the chance. She can still be a little clumsy (she's still a pup) so we have to be careful that she won't knock into us when playing fetch. Because she is a pup she can occasionally be a little mouthy, but totally understands "no teeth" and disengages quickly. When scared, she has a very robust bark, but she doesn't bark frequently, which we've appreciated.
Is the dog currently on vaccinations?: Yes
Heartworm test was:: Negative
Is the dog spayed or neutered?: Yes
Fecal exam results?: Negative
Is your dog housebroken?: Yes
Continued Training: Bailey is very excitable when people come to the door. We're working on calming her response down. When frustrated during training she has occasionally jumped up on the trainer and gotten a little nippy, kind of like a herding dog, but not serious.
Dogs? Dog-Friendly — Bailey has gotten along well with other dogs, especially those that love to roughhouse and play. She loves to run with other dogs and enjoys time spent running and chasing in open field areas.
Cats Unknown.
Does your dog have handling sensitivities? How is your dog meeting strangers?: She is still very puppy excitable about meeting people at our house. When out on walks she is typically more subdued, but can occasionally want to pull or jump up on others that are petting her. She's gotten better over time, but is still a puppy.
Does the dog like children?: Yes
Are there children in the home?: No — She seems to like kids and is excited by them, but we have tended to keep her away because she is large and we don't want them to get knocked over.
Feeding: We have been feeding by hand, so typically during training and on walks. We also give her a food ball puzzle where she has to work at getting the food to spill out.. She loves high-value treats and is extremely responsive to training and requests if she knows they are in play.
Where does the dog sleep?: Crate
Is the dog allowed on your furniture?: No
Is the dog crate trained?: Yes
How does the dog react to being left alone?: We don't typically leave her alone for long periods, but sense that she would be just fine. Because she is a pup and is still learning what she can and cannot chew on we would typically keep her in her large pen while away.
Please list any particular fears your dog has.: She seems to be scared of skateboards rolling by and will bark at them and react, but it isn't always consistent. Some times she reacts, sometimes she doesn't. It might be a function of how close the skateboarders are, or if she is surprised. She is typically on leash when this occurs, so we're not really certain how she would fully interact
Training: Bailey understands sit, down, stay and come. She also fetches well, but it varies by the day how interested she is in this type of play. Sometimes her responsiveness on come when called is dependent on high value treats. We have gone on walks in larger open areas away from traffic and she will roam for a distance away from us, but comes back to check on us frequently. Even when there are other dogs in the vicinity.
Does the dog have any known health problems?: No
Does the dog like riding in the car?: Yes
What is the dog's favorite : Bailey loves to chew, so we provide her with lots of chew toys. She loves her daily walks and exploring / sniffing around and experiencing the world around her. She is very curious. We've recently found a wonderful dog park that is huge and she loves to run and play with other dogs in that venue. As stated, she is really good at fetch and enjoys the activity, but at some point she gets tired or loses interest and would rather sniff and explore. She has a very strong scenting instinct, which I guess is typical of the breed, and would be excellent at activities that include that skillset.
What does the dog like?: Walks, running, fetching, exploring, playing with other dogs, etc.
What does the dog dislike?: Probably skateboards that surprise her.
Bailey can jump a fence so should not be left alone in the yard.
Active, fun adopters committed to continued young dog training / relationship-based focus. Can do well with other dogs, kids not recommended simply due to her happy jumping. Big dog lovers a must.
