MEET Patty!
Patty is currently in a foster/board and train program w/ our HFP coordinator/Trainer Lily where he is learning new skills in prep for his forevre home. He needs a very specific environment and home to thrive. Please make sure to read all about Patrick before applying.
Patty is a sweet and gentle, but nervous and insecure dog who would do best in a home with 1-2 people who are experienced with herding breeds/insecure fearful pups. He has MANY wonderfiul traits and to “his people” is a really amazing doggo.
He LOVES walking which is awesome because he is great at it! He always wants to be with his people so he rarely pulls and is constantly checking in. He generally keeps a respectful distance from other walkers/passing bikes and doesn’t bark at other dogs.
Patty has done great meeting other dogs and is very appropriate. He is playful with calm dogs.
He showed intense interest in cats and squirrels so no small critters in his next home
Patty does use his mouth to communicate and sometimes herds people — he can be very nervous meeting new people in the home environment — he should be crated or hold place command if visitors are coming over and visitors should be asked to ignore him initially. We would not recommend any visitor interaction in the home for a few months
Outside he is more comfortable than inside but still new people should be asked to ignore him and not pet — he is hand shy and sudden movements towards him scare him / he will use his mouth (a soft mouth) to tell you he is uncomfortable. Best to read his body language and not proceed with pets.
He is SUPER smart, food motivated, and picks up very quickly on cues. He knows “sit,” down and the most important cue he is learning is PLACE and holding place.
Daily activity needs: 1-2 hours of walks and mental stimulation/focus based training games and he loves tug
While Patrick lived with kiddos in his past home he should be in a child free home because he is uncomfortable w/ strangers in the house
A home in a quieter environment and with a yard would be ideal
His favorite sleeping position is belly up (adorable!), he loves being brushed and is always looking for a head scratch.
$250 adoption donation — neutered vet check, heartworm tested, vaccinated microchipped and up to date on monthly preventatives.
