Meet Josie!
Josie is a 68lb, 4 year old female Shepherd / Hound Mix.
Sweet Josie has done well meeting children & dogs however she is timid. Josie is gentle, but needs sufficient time to warm up. Due to her under-confidence, she can be bad at reading other dogs signals. Her ideal home is calm, patient, and willing to work on her timidness. In the right home, she will flourish and be a sweet, normal, happy dog. No busy homes or small/quick/loud kiddos for Josie girl. She would do okay with a well-mannered, submissive, sweet dog companion, but would do fine as an only-dog.
Josie is a sweet pup who loves car rides, spending time with her people and napping on the couch. She is housetrained, not destructive (except for her plush toys) and only gets into mild mischief such as attempting to sneak tissues from the trash. She does well with sleeping in her crate throughout the night and doesn't appear to have separation anxiety. She has been tested with kids and is good with people, but is still working on socializing with other dogs. While her cohabitating with cats is not known, she has a high prey drive out on walks - especially towards small dogs, critters and neighborhood cats. She can get overwhelmed and unsure on walks if there are too many other dogs, strollers or bikes close by. We are still working on socialization with other dogs, leash pulling, grooming jumping, and heeling.
She has not shown aggressive tendencies towards people or resource guarding and is a tolerant dog. She likes to play and get lots of pets, but also enjoys her own space as well. An ideal home would have no other dogs (until she becomes more socialized), no small critters and a yard for bathroom breaks and to go on at least 2-3 long walks a day. She has been tested with kids and has a gentle nature, but can be a bit jumpy when excited. She likes a moderate amount of attention (especially belly rubs) and is a routine oriented pup.
She is currently in foster in Davis.
