Rainie

Meet Rainie!

Rainie is a female 3-4 year old 50lb Shepherd / Pit mix.

She is currently being fostered in Sacramento.

Rescued from Madera Animal Shelter we don't know much about her past life but are committed to making sure her future is only filled with happiness. Rainie is very gentle and sweet with humans. She just wants to be loved. In the house, she’s easy going when you're around and a true velcro dog.

-- Activity Level: Moderate energy: Rainie loves to run around the backyard in the morning. She loves to go for walks and play, but she’s okay if she doesn’t get a walk every day. When she’s inside, she’s typically fairly relaxed (other than following us around!)

-- Favorite Activities/things: Rainie would love nothing more than to have a human who is happy to snuggle up with her! She loves to play with other dogs, and she also loves to play fetch. A WFH schedule or flexible work schedule would be ideal.

-- Experience with dogs? cats? kids? if applicable or known: Rainie is very appropriate and playful with other dogs. She tries everything she can to initiate play: playful barking, play position, rolling over in front of the dog she wants to play with, etc. Her foster brother isn’t interested, and she’s mostly okay with that, but she still tries! Rainie also tested great with other dogs at the shelter and was the go-to tester dog / playground dog.

She has a strong prey drive w/ regard to chasing squirrels, and she’s very interested in cats, but sometimes she responds neutrally to them on walks. We would recommend a home w/ no kitties.

-- Temperament: She’s timid at first, especially when people approach her suddenly! But once she warms up, she likes to lean against people and get pets. Overall, she’s very gentle with all humans.

-- Any fears/dislikes? She is afraid of sudden movements and sudden noises but she is typically okay with noises and movements once she understands what is happening.

-- House-training info: She is house trained but has some separation anxiety, which has been linked to accidents.

-- On-Leash: Walks well on leash. She meanders but does not pull. She’s afraid of people running up behind us, and she likes to pause and wait for cars to pass.

She's done well in car rides, no car sickness, and getting more used to car rides every time.

-- Barking? Only when she’s trying to get another dog to play or when she wants out of her crate.

-- Crate trained or crate training? Working on crate training. It sometimes takes a while, but she will settle in her crate.

-- How dog reacts to being alone? She prefers to follow her humans around. If she can’t, she will lay down and wait. She has some separation anxiety and will whine and pace. She has escaped an enclosed area inside the house, so we crate her when we leave. She is not thrilled with this arrangement, but she typically ends up sleeping.
