Meet theo!
Theo was pulled from Solano County Shelter thanks to a foster offer. Theo has tested well with dogs and have exhibited affiliative behaviors/done well with new people.
Here are Theo’s amazing notes from the trainer at his original shelter:
Dog did remarkably well throughout his evaluation. The dog was calm and very affiliative with the trainer on kennel approach - very loose and wiggly body, displaying a whole-body tail wag and some “pitter patter” of the front legs. The dog was easy to leash and walk out to the building - some pulling but no too difficult to manage despite his larger size. Medium level of energy out in the yard with some playful bursts. The dog appeared very content and comfortable in the yard while sniffing and exploring, displaying no marked signs of stress or uncertainty.
Enjoys toys and treats and has a very “goofy” play style. The dog showed no indications of hesitancy or reluctance approaching people or dogs, and was surprisingly relatively gentle when interacting and playing with the tester dogs (both dogs were playing and exploring the yard on drag leashes within a few minutes of meeting each other. No overt jumping or mouthing onto the handler seen. Dog displayed no reactivity against a barrier or on leash. Dog appears to enjoy petting and handling and displayed no over handling sensitivities. Dog remained neutral when tester dog drank out of same water bowl and then disengaged, returning when the other dog had moved away.
Dog was easy to return to the kennel and licked trainer’s face continuously. No over kennel stress or aroused behaviors seen before of after dog was taken out of the kennel. Dog appears to know “sit” and “shake” cues. Despite his very friendly temperament, this dog may not do as well in a home with young children due to his size and style of playing.
Dog displays excellent temperament with both dogs and people and may do very well with a first-time dog owner(s) that are open to adopting a 78lb strong breed. Dog would do best fully integrated into the home and routine - appears to have very strong affinity for people and being around them. Careful and slow intros to other dogs already recommended as he is large and may frighten other dogs or come on too “forward.”
