meet cash!
Cash is a 7 month cattle dog boxer mix pup adopted through HFP at 3 months of age, but now in need of a new home. Cash is looking for a forever home that can meet his mental and physical needs. Cash is a very smart and a quick learner, but gets bored easily as energetic puppies do!
Cash is a very sweet dog that loves attention from his people. In fact, he is very affectionate with his close circle and loves snuggles on the couch. He is working on fearfulness and reactivity (that has developed over the past two months) with positive reinforcement trainer, Sadie Goldman, who would be happy to continue working with him if he remains in Davis or Woodland. His trainer is quite fond of him! Both Sadie and his current family feel he is trainable and worthy of the perfect home!
The perfect situation would be a household that understands positive reinforcement based training and is willing to put in the time working on counter-conditioning and desensitization. Cash would do poorly if punished and needs gentleness as he matures from puppyhood to adulthood. His current owners feel that Cash would make a good ranch dog with lots of space to roam and bark if he wants. He thrives on mental challenges and is not comfortable in urban environments. An adult-home with no kitties, please!
Like all of us, Cash has strengths and weaknesses. Cash is fearful of new things and reactive while out and about on walks in the neighborhood. He currently lives with a very tolerant 9yr old female dog and they play well together, but is newly showing some resource guarding for attention, which is why we feel he would do best as the only pet in the home. He’s also a rough player and a “toy hog” - a couple things that suggest he would do best being your “one and only!”
Cash is intelligent, crate trained, enjoys riding in the car, and is very healthy! He also has an impressive list of tricks. From his current owners: “Cash knows sit, stay, touch, focus, come, down, wait, go to bed, shake, spin and a few other things. He can walk on a loose leash at times, although still working on it. He uses a button that says "outside" to tell us when he needs to go outside. He is fully potty trained except for when he gets super excited/happy he'll have an occasional small pee accident.”
He loves to chew on infinity-shaped benebones, ripping up stuffy toys that squeak, chasing a ball, walks, snuggles on the couch, affection, his dog sister Bailey, and Oravet dental chews before bed. He will do ANYTHING for one!
If you are looking for an energetic older puppy to build a bond with, Cash has potential to be the best version of himself with consistent training to show him the world is not so scary! He hopes you will give him a chance and inquire about him!
