Buddy

From his foster:

Buddy is a 3-5 year old, 33 pound Sato Mix rescued from imminent death by our partner in Puerto Rico, Souls of Satos.

He is friendly, sweet, gentle, and affectionate, and will thrive in a home with the time to dedicate to a young dog and his continued training. He is looking for a forever home that can give him daily walks, a comfortable bed, and lots of love. He would do well with respectful kids. A friendly dog in the home would be a plus to help him gain confidence.

Buddy goes on a morning and evening walk with our resident dog, and walks with a loose leash wearing a harness. He is non-reactive on his walk, and is gaining confidence in the outside world every day. Plays with our resident dog and with toys, and is learning basic commands.

He is housetrained and can go in/out a dog door. He sleeps through the night in his own bed on the floor of our bedroom.

He is working on co-existing with our resident cat. He is curious about the cat but does not hurt.

Buddy Foster Update:

“Wanted to give you an update on Buddy. He and Sophie got along from the start and he’s becoming more comfortable here. He did very well with all that handling. He’s got the feet, ears and tail of a lab, with a teeny head. He’s mouthy (but gentle) so might need supervision with very young kids. We will work on that. He’s not a fan of riding in the car, but we’ll work on that too. Cars driving by scared him the first few days, but he’s become more used to cars going by on his walks. He is on high alert on walks and his biggest challenge is seeing other dogs, especially at night. He doesn’t bark or lunge, but will freeze and has to have eyes on them no matter how far away they get. He is improving in the daytime. I have had to pick him up and carry him at night when he just froze at the sight and sound of other dogs and wouldn’t move. We now go to the same place every night, an office park that’s well lit with no cars and no dogs and he is getting better. He is showing daily improvement on overcoming his fears and is now taking treats during our walks. I know this will all just take time and conditioning. I walk the dogs in tandem and Sophie has been an excellent role-model. He would benefit from a home with a confident dog friend.”
