Finn

Finn is a loving, obedient, playful but underconfident 1 yr old Black Lab mix looking for an experienced home committed to continued structure and training.

Finn first came to HFP back in December and was fostered by a family in Davis who had 3 other dogs. Finn thrived in his foster home and even learned agility courses during his time with them. He was adopted by a young couple a few weeks later, however it turned out not to be the best match for everyone.

Finn has fantastic, solid obedience; He knows: place, sit, down, touch, stay, and has great leash walking skills. He has also started on more advanced greeting work. Finn is crate trained, housetrained, and most importantly, smart/responsive to his handlerFinn is a loving, obedient, playful and underconfident 1 yr old Black Lab mix looking for a home committed to continued structure and training.

Finn first came to HFP back in December and was fostered by a family in Davis who had 3 other dogs. Finn thrived in his foster home where he lived with three dogs, and even learned agility courses during his time with them. He was adopted by a young couple a few weeks later, however it turned out not to be the best match for everyone due to skill-level, environment and Finn’s needs.

Finn has fantastic, solid obedience; He knows: place, sit, down, touch, stay, and has great leash walking skills. He has also started on more advanced greeting work. Finn is crate trained, housetrained, and most importantly, smart/responsive to his handler.

Finn’s favorite things include: Bones and bully sticks to chew as well as anything with a squeaker. He will chase and play with a flirt pole and bubbles. He loves to be in the car and rides well in the backseat.

With people, Finn has had no issues outside of the home but is cautious, protective, and insecure when meeting new people in the home. If not handled correctly, Finn has lunged at visitors. Because of this he will need adopters willing to continue working on this, reinforcing his place command or understanding he may need to be crated when guests come over.

Although he lived with other dogs in his first foster home and dogs in his board and train program with Tierney at Unleash the Beast, and also did great meeting dogs at our rescue, he has become leash-reactive to some passing dogs, so they did not allow him to interact with other dogs during his 4 months with them.

While the adopters did due diligence and all the right things getting him to a trainer, their environment and skill-level as first time owners is not what is best for Finn. A more experienced home that can provide more activity/exercise, consistency, safe management of meeting strangers in the home, and calm, confident leadership will yield a loyal best friend till the end.
