Meet KODA! 1 year 53 lb Neutered Cattle Dog Mix.
Koda was surrendered to HFP by a student who worked full time and had to leave Koda home alone all day. Koda has done well meeting dogs and is playful but can be possessive of people around other dogs, so may do best as a solo dog. Koda is young-dog mouthy, but easily redirects. He displays herding breed characteristics when playing with other dogs and can nip at them / herd.
Koda has understandably been experiencing separation anxiety since he was surrendered to HFP as he lost the person he knew and loved. He will need a loving, committed home that will provide structure, guidance and consistency.
HFP Notes: We would recommend a dog-savvy / experienced home for Koda and not first time owners. He is a bit handshy but warms up to people in a few short minutes. Once he knows you and trusts you he allows all over handling and is safe and comfortable with hugs, checking teeth and paws etc, however with people he does not know he dodges away from sudden movements, so an adult only house may be best.
Koda meets dogs well on leash and wants to play. His playstyle can be rude and mouthy if the play goes on too long, however he is great at taking breaks and not being in the dogs face unless they’re in full play mode. Because he has exhibited resource guarding of humans towards dogs, an only animal home would be best.
Koda weaves and pulls on leash, but is correctable and could easily learn heel. He is being walked on a slip lead leash but may do better on another walking device like a herm sprenger 2.25 mm.
Ideal home: Person or couple with a yard, active, and looking for a BFF loyal side-kick that could go to different places with them would love a dog like Koda WFH and or ability to bring him places. He does need to re-learn how to be comfortable being left alone. He travels well in the car and checks-in with his handler. He also bonds hard and fast. He is very cattle-dog-esque in body, temperament, energy level and personality.
