Charmin' Charlie

Meet Charlie, a 10-month old basset hound- mix who will be a wonderful addition to a loving family!

Charlie is curious, friendly, and cuddly. He landed at the Visalia animal shelter as a stray, so we don’t know much about what his life was like prior. His foster family is currently working on simple commands like sit, down, and stay. Treats are an excellent motivator & he is very treat motivated to make continued training a breeze.

Charlie is also a wonderful sleeper all through the night he lays curled up next to his person or in his bed.

So shortly out of the shelter, Charlie does get anxious being left alone in his crate so he would do best with a family who is home more often than note.

Likes: Food, especially treats (but who doesn’t love treats?); playing with his foster sisters (both furry and human — Charlie lives with two small kiddos); cuddling in bed at night

Dogs: Charlie does well with other dogs! He is currently living with two female dogs and loves playing chase with them in the backyard.

Cats: Uknown

Kids: Charlie does great with kids. His foster family has two young children.

Housetrained: Charlie had some accidents his first few days out of the shelter, but that’s understandable given al the big changes. He has done well otherwise. Any new transition might spur a few more accidents in the future.

On leash: Being part basset hound, Charlie loves to smell and explore while on walks. He will need more leash training to work on some mild pulling.

Activity Level: Moderate. He’s always ready to play and chase, but likes to lounge in his bed, too.

Exercise: We take Charlie on 2 x daily walks – one morning and one night – about an hour each, plus some time for chase in the backyard!
