Meet mellow Rocky from Puerto Rico! This super sweet boy was found in truly horrific conditions with about 10 other severely neglected dogs. He was in the worst shape of the bunch, and was living in an enclosed outdoor shed, emaciated with a very painful skin condition. After a few months of healing in Puerto Rico, he was ready to make his way to California!
Rocky's foster mom reports that he is a total love bug who has adjusted nicely to living in San Francisco. He bonds quickly and absolutely loves human attention, especially if it involves rubs and scratches. He is a gentle, goofy boy who enjoys being around his people and playing with his foster dog sister. If his foster sister didn't initiate play time, we are pretty sure he'd be content napping in his various dog beds and following you around the house to check if it's time for cheese.
Rocky enjoys other dogs, and would most likely prefer to live with one in his forever home. He does need slow and proper introductions to new dogs as he builds his confidence in his new environment. We don't believe Rocky would feel terribly comfortable in a dog park. He can be timid when new dogs run up to him quickly, however, he has started to wag his tail and show interest when seeing new dogs on walks!
Speaking of walks, this guy is a dream on leash. Rocky loves exploring in San Francisco and walks very politely next to his foster mom (he totally puts his foster sister to shame). He seems unsure about backyards (probably because he spent his entire life in a small outdoor area) and grass appears to be foreign and a little scary to him. He is doing very well with his potty training, but he will need a patient adopter who will continue to work with him. He doesn't love going outside on his own but is building confidence. He tends to prefer using concrete, stone, or dirt for his bathroom breaks rather than grass or artificial turf.
His foster mom believes that he could live comfortably in an apartment or house without a yard as he is very mellow and prefers going for walks to get his outside time in. Rocky has met several children and an infant and has been very gentle with them, though he would probably prefer a home where loud, unexpected noises are not the norm. Rocky also may be able to live with a cat, as he has shown zero interest in the one that he met (he has also seen wild rabbits running and did not react). This special boy rides incredibly well in the car, and has taken two 8+ hour road trips with his foster mom. Rocky is a quick learner, he loves to play fetch and has mastered "sit"! Sweet Rocky would thrive in a patient, consistent home with another dog friend, lots of love, massages and cheese.
