Meet Angel. Angel was rescued from the Porterville shelter before coming to Hearts for Paws.
Heres what her foster has to say:
“She is the definition of the perfect home dog. She is more than content to sit at home with her owners on a comfy couch and cuddle all day, but she also has tons of energy and is always ready for a long walk or even a run. I have taken Angel on several 2-3 mile runs on flat pavement and she has kept up well running along at an 8 minute pace!
She doesn’t seem to be interested in any balls or tugging on toys. (However, this has been great when I take her to the soccer fields because she doesn’t care about the balls enough to interrupt a game.) But also means exercise is pretty much walks or runs.
Angel is a quick learner and understands basic commands like sit, stop/no, and stay (when she’s motivated). Angel also knows a fancy, untrained trick which is the ability to open some closed doors — this has definitely kept me on my toes at times!
Angel is not interested in running away, but more determined to be with her people. I have left her home with the doors locked on one occasion and came home to find some paw marks on the inside of my front and rear door. She gets really sad when her owner leaves. Once home, she was super ecstatic and very happy to have her people back with her again.
Angel loves everyone she meets (as long as they are willing to give her belly rubs), but she always listens to her owner and comes when needed.
She also really enjoys bath time, but I have yet to see how she does with larger bodies of water like a lake or the ocean. As long as she’s with her owner, I’m sure she’d be loving it!
We know Angel used to live with another dog. On leash she doesn’t lunge after other dogs or other people, but she will get excited when she sees the occasional squirrel (make sure to hold on tight for these).
Angel will need to be in a pet-free home due to two separate incidences with smaller dogs. She has met and interacted with many dogs without issue, but due to the incidences will need to work on muzzle training before being reintegrated with dogs. She is not a dog park dog, but we would love for her to remain social with dogs by going on parallel walks.
Angel is the perfect life partner for anyone who enjoys a lot of outdoor activity and the occasional at home day. She could be a great family dog, but she does tend to jump up when excited, so she might not be great with small kids. She loves big yards that she can run around in and loves taking a snooze on a couch or on her owner’s bed.”
