MEET JESSIE!
Male, neutered Chihuahua about 8 years old who weighs 13-15 pounds
Reason for owner surrender: I am no longer able to care for him. He needs to go in and out many times a day and I should walk him more. Also I travel and have to leave him in care many times during the year.
Jessie is a loving little dog who appreciates lots of attention. He is happy when he had plenty to eat and a cozy bed. He sleeps in the bedroom on his own doggie bed with a warm blanket. He can relax and enjoy life when he has a short walk every day. He is good with kids and tolerates other dogs/has lived in a home w/ other dogs and cats. He has spent time around children. He is very loyal and affectionate. He would sit with a person a lot of the day if he could. He likes to play for short spells. He loves to eat. (I work at keeping him slender.) Jessie can be shy in a new environment, but once he feels safe, he relaxes and makes friends. He barks at visitors but quickly makes friends with them.
Describe any training the dog has, tricks it knows, and any experience with a trainer.: No tricks. He is okay on the leash but he no longer likes to walk long distances.
Does the dog have any known health problems?: Yes
Other: Jessie has urinary tract sensitivity so he has special food.
Does the dog like riding in the car?: Yes He loves to ride in the car.
What does the dog like?: He likes to sit by me and have his tummy rubbed or his ears scratched.
He likes to sit by the fire. He likes things he can pull on, like dog ropes and other toys.
What does the dog dislike?: The vet
Please describe a typical day for your dog ?: I get up very early and let Jessie and my other dog outside. When they come back in, they have their first meal. After that they go back to sleep while I read or work on the computer. When it's light I usually go for a walk with my other dog then try to take Jessie for a quick walk. He used to walk long distances - several miles. Now he is very perky walking but only around the block. The rest of the day he is sitting with me, following me to the kitchen looking for food or playing in the yard. We go to bed early and he sleeps comfortably through the night.
Please provide a summary of the “ideal” home for your dog:: I want Jessie to feel loved, to get lots of attention and good care. I want him to be with a person or people who can give him more attention that I am able to give him. I am out of the house a lot and often travel. He likes playing with my 5-year-old granddaughter, and he makes her laugh, so children in the house or playful adults would be good for him.
