Meet Lilly!
Lilly arrived to HFP as a stray from Sanger Animal Shelter, where she was found running in the countryside. While nothing is known about her past life, she is looking for the best life from now on! She’s around a year old and weighs 14 pounds.
When she arrived at HFP it was discovered her mouth had not developed correctly and she had a congenital oronasal fistula, which in her case is a 2mm opening from the roof of her mount to her nasal cavity. She had surgery to correct this, and the hole is now partially closed. She needs minor feeding accommodations because of this. It’s very important to slow down her eating to prevent aspiration, and that is easily accomplished with food puzzles, slow feeders, or snuffle mats (and bonus, mental stimulation!) She drinks out of a Lixit bottle, rather than a bowl.
This once timid girl has grown very confident and she has done well meeting new people. Lilly loves her 1.5 mile walks in the morning and evening, sniffing everything along the way. She has gone from being fearful of other dogs on her walk to being overly interested in other dogs, squirrels and cats on her walk.
In between outings, she likes to hang out wherever you are so if you are working from home she’ll gladly be your new office mate. She is learning to play with dogs and toys, and has demonstrated an occasional zoomie around the house. She currently lives with a dog and a cat, and would do best with a friendly, calm, small dog in her new family.
She would need a slow introduction to a new dog or cat. She is learning basic cues like sit, wait, touch, shake, look at me, and leave it and is very treat motivated for continued training.
She is good in the car. Because of her small size, a family with older children is recommended.
$250 adoption donation — spayed, vetted, utd on monthly preventatives, chipped.
