Tofu

Tofu is a sweet and adorable, dog friendly, 1 year old terrier mix. Tofu landed as a stray at Stanislaus shelter in Modesto California before becoming a HFP dog.

He is easy going, loves to snuggle, and loves other dogs. He would thrive in a home that will continue to help him blossom and provide positive exposure to the world around him. 9 lbs and housetrained.

Activity Level:  Medium energy, content to nap at home as long as you'll let him

Daily Exercise Needs: Please describe in detail.

Tofu enjoys romps in the backyard and happy laps at the dog park. The leash makes him nervous but we're working on it! Once he's comfortable on leash, he'll probably a walk or two a day kinda guy.

Your Current Schedule: Please describe in detail.

Tofu wakes me up for pets and cuddles at 7am and I feed him and take him out to potty ~8am. He's content to hang out at home when I have to study and he's an angel home alone when I'm in class. We venture to the park or play in the backyard for an hour-ish every day. They eat dinner ~6pm. They have access to the backyard all day otherwise and Tofu and his foster brother love to sunbathe in the grass!

Housetrained: Tofu has only had potty accidents in the house when we go to bed early and I don't let them out first thing in the morning. Dude's got a itty bitty bladder! He's a very good, very house-trained boy!

On-Leash: Tofu is extremely nervous on leash. We use a slip-lead, but he's not a big fan of the whole "walking" thing. He's fine wearing it, but pressure on his neck makes him nervous and he's very resistant. Wherever he was before Hearts for Paws definitely did not do him any favors. He needs some help learning how to "dog"!

Experience level of future adopters: He'll be a great addition to any family who is willing to give him time to trust and settle in. He's a sweet, goofy, cuddly guy when he knows you're his person hi.

Dogs: Dog friendly!

Kids: I don't think Tofu is well suited to a home with children right now! Fast movements, loud noises, being chased, and being reached for is all very scary to him. I think he has potential to be great with kids down the road, though. Not a mean bone in his body!

Cats: Maybe? He might be scared of them!

Personality: Please describe -- Tofu is sweet, gentle, and spunky. He's very quiet (does he know how to bark? I don't think so!) and attached to me but very nervous around everyone else. He's very under-socialized so everything is initially new and scary to him but he's learning that trying new things is fun (like puppuccinos, the dog park, blankets, bones, tennis balls...I digress). He LOVES to play with other small dogs, LOVES to cuddle dogs of any size (unfortunately his foster brother is a butt and refuses to allow cuddles, though Tofu tries relentlessly), loves to wake his people up with kisses, snuggles, and happy laps on the bed, sunbathing, does well in the car, etc. I think he's going to become a happy, balanced little BFF - it'll just take time!

Likes/Dislikes:

Likes: cuddles, belly rubs, food of all kinds, chewing bones, toys (once they're no longer scary), other dogs, puppaccinos

Dislikes: Being reached for (hand shy), most new things, the vacuum
